The Design Dispensary were invited to talk on the subject of ‘The opportunities for branding in product and service design’ by Design Network North for their fifth ‘Rise & Design’ event on Friday 12th February.
Having returned late the night before from a discussion and debating session in London with the marketing heads of Burger King, Ebay and Virgin Media, The Design Dispensary’s Managing Director Jeremy Royle was back on duty for The Design Dispensary the following morning at Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd in Sunderland.
In front of an audience of over 100 peers, Jeremy gave a brief overview of his 16 years of branding experience, prior to relating some industrial specific case study examples that the Newcastle design and marketing consultancy, The Design Dispensary, were currently working on with clients Cottam Brush and Profins.
Jeremy’s talk demonstrated how the successful ‘tangibility’ of a brand is made of more than the visual elements of a logotype, symbol or tagline, demonstrating the need to carefully balance these elements as part of the more complex branding process that brings together the other brand ‘senses’.
The other speakers at the event included Roy Sandbach, Research Fellow – Procter & Gamble who gave a talk on ‘Brand equity, the key to design direction’, and Grant Marshall, Creative Director – tdg, who spoke on ‘Getting it right or wrong’ to ensure that the brand lives to fight another day.
